Hello

My name is Dr. Morgan Shafer

Dr. Morgan Shafer was born in Houston, Texas and went to high school in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. She studied biology and ecology at Boston University, where she spent two years conducting research on the ecology and physiology of bats and spent six months studying tropical ecology in Ecuador. From there, she went on to the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated with honors and won the Student Inspiration Award. She practiced in Philadelphia for almost four years at a feline-only hospital and in shelter medicine before coming to Art City Vets at the start of 2019. During her time in Ecuador, she was introduced to the Galapagos Islands and realized the huge need for veterinary care on the islands. This experience inspired her to help found the non-profit Darwin Animal Doctors, which provides veterinary care to dogs and cats living on the Galapagos, as well as humane education to the community. She has travelled to the Galapagos six times, bringing groups of veterinarians, students, and nurses to volunteer.

Dr. Shafer has a strong passion for feline medicine and loves giving people the tools they need to help their kitties thrive. She is a proud member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners. Dr. Shafer is a Cat-Friendly Certified Veterinarian. She also enjoys dentistry, surgery, behavior, preventative medicine, and managing seniors with chronic issues.

Dr. Shafer lives in Philadelphia with her husband Brian, who is a human ophthalmologist. They live with their (human) son and a rotating cast of permanent and foster cats and dogs. She enjoys spending time hiking, cooking, reading, seeing love music, and traveling. Dr. Shafer speaks Spanish and is happy to see any Spanish-speaking clients.
